This guide explains how to split a large VMS Site into smaller Sites to maintain system stability and performance.
The system supports a soft limit of 10 Media Servers per Site. Exceeding 10 servers per Site can cause database synchronization issues. For best performance, create one Site per physical local network containing up to 10 servers that meet the recommended hardware requirements.
Prerequisites
Before splitting a Site, ensure you meet the following requirements:
Server access: Physical or remote access to every server in the original Site, along with each server's local administrator credentials.
License inventory: A record of all current license keys. Copy keys manually using the Desktop Client, or retrieve all keys at once using the REST API:
GET https://<server_ip>:7001/rest/v4/licenses
|
NOTE: Splitting a Site prevents servers from sharing perpetual Professional license keys across multiple Sites. By default the license keys cannot be split. Alternatively, upgrading your Professional System to the Enterprise tier will irreversibly convert license keys into 24-month Subscription Keys, which Organization Administrators can distribute across all Sites. |
Detach Media Servers
Disconnect the servers you want to reassign from the existing Site.
Open a browser and go to
https://<server_ip>:7001.Select Settings > Servers, then select the server to remove.
Select Detach from Site.
Repeat steps 1–3 for each server you want to detach.
Clean up the original Site
Remove leftover settings and references from the original Site.
In the Desktop Client, go to Site Administration > Licenses.
Delete any license keys that display the status Server not found.
Remove the detached servers from the Server list.
Merge Media Servers into new Sites
Group local servers together to support failover recording and network redundancy.
Open a browser, go to
https://<server_ip>:7001, and log in as an administrator. In the Resource Panel, right-click the Site name and select Merge Sites.
In the Merge Sites dialog, enter the secondary server's address in the Server URL field, or select a local Site from the drop-down menu.
Enter the administrator password for the secondary Site, then select Check.
Choose which Site's name and settings the new combined Site will use.
Select Merge with .
Repeat these steps to group remaining local servers, ensuring no Site exceeds 10 servers.
Connect new Sites to the Cloud
Reconnect each newly formed Site to Nx Cloud using either the Desktop Client or the Web Admin interface.
Desktop Client
Go to Main Menu > Site Administration > Nx Cloud.
Select Connect Site to Nx Cloud.
Log in to the target Nx Cloud account.
Web Admin
Go to
https://<server_ip>:7001and log in.Go to Settings > Site Administration > General.
Select Connect to Nx Cloud.
Log in to the target Nx Cloud account.
Once this is all done, you can assign the deactivated license keys to the new site, or allocate the Subscription Keys via Nx Connect to each Site.
