Updating your VMS is simple and fast. Follow the steps below to upgrade your system.
| NOTE: We recommend always performing a fallback option, for example a restore point in Windows, Timeshift for Linux, or Time Machine for macOS prior to any update. |
Update over the internet (online update)
Your VMS has the ability to upgrade all connected servers in a Site with a few the clicks. Confirm that your VMS has an active internet connection and follow these steps:
- Open the Desktop Client application.
- Open the Main Menu > Site Administration (or Ctrl+Alt+A) > tab Updates.
- Click the Download button if a new release is available.
- When the update is downloaded, click the Install update button.
- When your system is done updating, you will be prompted the restart of your Desktop Client.
To Update from a Local Source (offline update)
Systems without an active Internet connection can get the latest version by following these steps:
- Open the Desktop Client application.
- Open the Main Menu > System Administration (Ctrl+Alt+A) > tab Updates.
- Click on Get Update File.

Click Copy Link to Clipboard. (If you are doing this on the computer with Internet access, click Download in External Browser and proceed to step 7.)
- Save the link so it can be transferred to a computer with Internet access.
- Paste the copied link into a browser on a computer with Internet access and use it to download the update file.
- Save the update file to an external drive, then copy it onto the offline computer.
- On the offline computer, open Main Menu > System Administration (Ctrl+Alt+A) > Updates tab.
- Click on the Latest Available Update drop-down menu.

Click Browse for Update File.
- In the file browser that opens, navigate to the external drive where the update file is saved and open it to start the update process.
- Click the Upload button.
- Click the Install update button.
- When your system is done updating, you will be prompted to restart your client.
To Update to a specific build
Aside from typical updates to an official release version, Nx Witness provides the capability to update to a specific patch build.
- Open Nx Desktop.
- Open Main Menu > System Administration (Ctrl+Alt+A) > Updates tab.
- Click the button Get Specific Build or click the drop-down list and change default value Latest Available Update to Specific Build.
- Verifying dialog with "Build Number" and "Password" fields will pop up
- To get a specific version you need to input correct values which are usually provided by Nx Support Team

After the input, click the Update System button to start the update.
