When to download and install Nx Mobile without the Google Play Store
In most cases, Android phone users will download the Nx Witness Mobile application through the Google Play Store, but there are some reasons to install the application directly on your Android phone, such as when:
- Beta testing,
- Installing a new patch,
- Using a 32-bit device, or
- Using a device without the Google Play Store installed.
Adding an application manually without the Google Play Store is called sideloading. Sideloading isn't very difficult to do if you follow the steps as described in the section below.
Why is 32-bit Nx Mobile not found in the Google Play Store?
As of August 2019, Google Play has stopped accepting 32-bit applications and are requiring them to be bundled with 64-bit applications. We provide 32-bit and 64-bit applications, but for both to be available on Google Play they must have different build numbers.
As a result of this new requirement, some users might get the following message when accessing our app page on a 32-bit android device: “This item is not compatible with your device.”
If you’re going to install apps from outside the Play Store, make sure you only sideload the application using the download links from this page or those provided to you by the Network Optix support team.
We are working on a permanent solution that will incorporate both 32-bit and 64-bit versions into a single bundle for users to download both versions, 32-bit and 64-bit, natively through the official Google Play Store. You can find more information about Google Play 64-bit support by visiting the Google Developers site.
How to sideload an android application
In order to sideload the Nx Mobile application, you first need to set up your Android phone to allow the use of the manually added application:
- Open the Settings menu
- Go to Apps & Notifications
- Expand the Advanced menu
- Choose Special App Access
- Select Install Unknown Apps
- Grant the permission for the app you used to download the application (e.g. Chrome, Firefox, etc.)
Keep in mind that this procedure might vary a bit between devices and Android versions. If needed, you should be able to find more precise sideloading instructions for your phone brand and model on the internet.
How to obtain and install the application?
Within a few steps, you can download and install the application.
- Use your phone to download the appropriate version:
- Before downloading the application you will see a warning, and you tap OK.
- Now you can install the file by tapping on the Install button
- Wait until it finishes installing, and you can open the application just as you would open any application on your phone.
Patches will be provided through our support team on a case-by-case basis. Please contact your reseller for Powered-by-Nx products other than Nx Witness.
Note: Applications that were installed through sideloading won't update automatically, so in case of a Beta version or custom patch, please replace it as soon as a new version has been published in the Google Play Store. If the Google Play Store isn't available for your Android smartphone, it is advised to keep an eye on our email newsletters for new releases. Additionally, please remember to update your application manually. |
