Updating Nx Witness

For users of Nx Witness, updating is simple and fast. Follow the steps below to upgrade your system.

NOTE: We recommend always performing a database backup prior to any update.

Update over the internet (online update)

Nx Witness has the ability to upgrade all connected servers in a system with the click of a button. Confirm that your system has an active internet connection and follow these steps:

1. Open the Desktop client application
2. Open the Main Menu > System Administration (or Ctrl+Alt+A) > Updates tab.
3. Click the Update button if a new release is available.
4. When your system is done updating, you will be prompted to restart your client.

To Update from a Local Source (offline update)

Systems without an active Internet connection can get the latest version by following these steps:

1. Open Nx Desktop.
2. Open Main Menu > System Administration (Ctrl+Alt+A) > Updates tab.
3. Click on Get Update File
4. Click Copy Link to Clipboard.

5. Save the link to an external drive, so it can be transferred to a computer with internet access.
6. Paste the copied link into a browser on a computer with internet access and use it to download the update file.
7. Save the update file to an external drive, then copy it onto the offline computer.
8. On the offline computer, open Main Menu > System Administration (Ctrl+Alt+A) > Updates tab.
9. Click on the Latest Available Update drop-down menu.
10. Click Browse for Update File.
11. In the file browser that opens, navigate to the external drive where the update file is saved and open it to start the update process.
12. When your system is done updating you will be prompted to restart your client.

To Update to a specific patch

Aside from typical updates to an official release version, Nx Witness provides the capability to update to a specific patch build.

1. Open Nx Desktop.
2. Open Main Menu > System Administration (Ctrl+Alt+A) > Updates tab.
3. Click the button Get Specific Build or click the dropdown list and change default value Latest Available Update to Specific Build.
4. Verifying dialog with "Build Number" and "Password" fields will pop-up
5. To get a specific version you need to input correct values which are usually provided by Nx Support Team
6. After the input, click OK to proceed for versions 2.6 and below. Versions 3.0 and forward have a dedicated Update System button required to initiate the update.
7. If the update fails on the first try (e.g. because of the internet lagging) clickable Update button will download and install the package later
