What is the issue?
Some users have reported that certain Hikvision cameras appear as Unauthorized within the system. This behavior primarily affects discontinued or legacy models running older firmware, specifically v5.2.0 and older.
What is the cause of the issue?
The issue stems from a security protocol mismatch. The camera is configured to use Basic Authentication, an unencrypted method that is no longer supported in version v6.1 of the VMS due to updated security standards. Because the camera cannot establish a secure handshake, the authentication process fails during initialization.
What is the solution?
| NOTE: The instructions below and the appearance of the interface may vary slightly depending on your specific camera model or firmware version. |
To restore the connection, you must update the camera's authentication settings to a secure method:
Log in to the camera’s web interface via its IP address.
Navigate to Configuration > System > Security.
Change the Web Authentication (and RTSP Authentication, if applicable) from Basic to Digest.
Save the settings.
| NOTE: The camera status should return to Online immediately. If it does not, right-click the camera in the Resource Tree and re-enter the credentials under Camera Settings. |
