When we provide instructions and other information, we often refer to specific menus from within the Desktop Client. Although the Desktop Client is rather intuitive to use, we think it is beneficial to provide some more information about the names of the different panels of the Desktop Client interface, and additional information of where to find which menu.
We would like to highlight that our Desktop Client User Interface offers various ways to access different menus. To simplify matters for now, we are suggesting one option to find the desired menu. However, we are confident that over time, all users will become familiar with navigating to their desired menus effortlessly within the interface.
Desktop Client User Interface
- Main Menu – offer primary tasks as connecting and disconnecting to various systems, and access to various generic menus, like the Local Settings menu, System Administration menu, and more. Also, access to the Audit Trail and Bookmark menu can be done here.
- Navigation Panel – provides access to the Main Menu, tabs for each layout, the {{cloudName}} connection form, the help system(?), and standard window sizing controls.
- Resource Panel – displays all servers, devices (cameras, analog encoders, DVRs/NVRs, IO Modules), layouts, showreels, web pages, users, other Systems, and local files (video and image files) available to the current user.
- Notification Panel – contains tabs that display tiles for notifications, motion detection, bookmarks, events, and analytics objects.
- Playback Panel – controls playback of local videos and live streams.
- Viewing Grid – The central Viewing Grid can display up to 64 individual Items.
- Item in Layout – An Item in the layout can be camera streams, recorded video files, web pages, etc.
- Layout – An arrangement of items in the Viewing Grid is called a Layout. Layouts can be named and saved. Multiple layouts can be open at once, each displayed in a separate tab.
Main Menu
To access the Main Menu, simply click on the hamburger icon located in the top left corner of the Desktop Client interface. This menu serves as a gateway to a range of essential features. It grants you access to specific Desktop Client Settings, generic System Wide settings, and much more.
Local Settings Menu
When you access the Main Menu, you can select the Local Settings menu, to configure general settings for the Desktop Client, and personalize the client, set the screen recording parameters, select the Desktop Notifications, and some advanced settings. These Local Settings apply to the current Desktop Client instance only.
System Administration Menu
By right-clicking on the System Name – or by hitting Ctrl+Alt+A – you'll be able to select the System Administration menu. This action will prompt a dialog to open, granting you access to a variety of features, including General system settings and logs, User Management, Updates, Licenses, Security Settings, Cloud Access, and more.
Server Settings Menu
By right-clicking on the Server Name, you’ll be able to select the Server Settings menu, and configure the Server specific settings, like Failover, Storage Management and Analytics, and the Backup configuration.
Camera Settings Menu
By right-clicking on the Camera Name, you’ll be able to select the Camera Settings menu, and configure the Camera specific setting, like the General settings, Recording settings, Motion, Dewarping, and Expert settings. Also, you have access to the Web Page of the camera web interface through this menu.
Layout Settings Menu
By right-clicking on the Viewing Grid, you can select the Layout Settings menu, which enabled you to lock the layout, set the Minimum Grid Size, and add custom Backgrounds.
