We maintain the IP Video Supported Devices (IPVD) list (also available in our Cloud application; LINK) to show which cameras and video devices are currently supported, along with a brief list of their capabilities.
To populate this list, the VMS collects device capabilities using several API calls. It then securely transmits this data from systems that have anonymous auto-reporting enabled.
| NOTE: Always verify critical features directly with your device vendor. Some devices may auto-report support for features they do not actually support, such as I/O ports or two-way audio. |
Add a camera to the IPVD list
To speed up the process of getting a new camera model listed on the IPVD, you can manually trigger the reporting process.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have the following:
Three independent VMS Systems, each with a unique hardware ID (HWID).
Three separate cameras of the identical model you want to list, each with unique ID.
Network access that allows outbound traffic to the Media Servers. For details, see the Firewall Passlist.
| NOTE: The Vendor and Model names of your device must be unique to be listed. Generic names for either the vendor or the model - such as General, IPC, Onvif, or Camera - will not be accepted or listed. |
Step 1: Set up the devices and systems
-
Connect one camera to each of the three Nx Systems.
Note: Do not connect the same camera to multiple systems. Each system must stream video from a unique Device ID.
Verify that all three cameras are actively streaming video.
Verify that all features work correctly, including I/O, two-way audio, and PTZ.
Disable any firewall rules that block traffic to the Nx Server.
Step 2: Enable anonymous reporting
To allow the systems to share device capabilities with the IPVD database, enable statistics sharing on all three Nx Systems:
Open the Nx Client and navigate to System Administration.
Select the General tab.
Check the box for Send anonymous usage and crash statistics to software developers.
Click Apply.
Step 3: Trigger the report (Optional)
While the systems periodically report data automatically, you can force an immediate update by sending an API request.
Run the following HTTP request for each of your three Nx Systems, replacing <server_ip> and <server_port> with your actual system details:
Expect delays during publishing
After you complete these steps, the backend system must process, verify, and merge the incoming reports. This verification is not instantaneous and can take several days to complete. Please allow some time for your device model to appear on the official IPVD list.
Once the database updates, please allow an additional 24-hour delay for the new devices to appear in the Cloud application.
