    Hi Chris,

Sorry for a counterquestion, but why do you need to use camera motion detection instead of Nx based? Is there anything that can be added or improved to Nx motion detection so that you won't need to use camera's motion?

Hi.. Rain is the main reason. when its raining at night the motion detection is recording pretty much full time. Also when cars drive past the headlight splash also triggers recording.

    Hi chris gill,

You may refer to this ARTICLE for the support in-camera analytics function.
The supported functions can be found in the article. So far, as the Nx has a great motion detection function, so we currently don’t support the camera side motion detection.

If you really need the camera motion, you can do the following:

    A) If the camera is capable to do HTTP Request.

    1. The camera can send out HTTP request (HTTP event) when the motion id detected on the camera side.
    2. You can use the Nx Generic API and configure the camera to send out the HTTP request to Nx media server.
    3. On Nx, you configure the event rules - When Generic Event rules are detected, record for a specific duration.

    B) If the camera is not possible to send out HTTP Request.

    1. You can wire the signal input and signal output.
    2. While the motion is detected, the camera itself send out the output signal on the camera.
    3. Since the signal output and input are wired, so Nx will be able to detect the signal input.
    4. On Nx, you configure the event rules - When input signals are detected, the camera triggers recording for a specific duration.

    Hi chris gill,

Let me iterate what my colleague Anderson Chang tried to explain.

The server side motion detection detects motion, but detects ALL motion and doesn't discriminate the origin of the motion, except day/night switching. The sensitivity helps you to reduce false positives, but you can eliminate them, since object size, directions, etc. aren't taken into account.

So what most people use to reduce the number of false positives is the use of in-camera analytics, in-camera motion detection could be one of them. The whole list of currently supported brands and types of analytics can be found in THIS support article.

Both Axis and Vivotek are among the supported manufacturers.

If you use another brand, that has in-camera analytics, but this brand isn't listed, you could check if the device you are using, is capable of sending HTTP request as an action.

When this is possible, you could send such HTTP request to Nx as described in THIS article.

Also, my colleague described the workaround to utilize the input and output of the camera if they have any.

Last but not least, if you have an Intel based server, you could use the OpenVINO application, which you can find and read about HERE in our integrations store of the Nx Cloud. This is a server-side application that also offers a form of video content analytics, which helps you to reduce false positives.

And then there are IP based motion sensors, like THESE GJD D-TECT units for example which will ignore rain/snow/hail/etc completely.

Also, there are tons of AI based solutions availble, which you can check out in our Nx Integration platform.
