What do you mean by "remove" the record files?  Are you talking about making a copy for backup purposes or do you mean delete the old footage? 

You are probably right about the spur-of-the-moment. I have a tendency to want to show off the system without having to install the client, but that may be a rare use case. The Chromebook "client" ...

One of the main things I was thinking about was having it available spur of the moment if needed without having to install something first, and also on Chromebooks/Chromebox/Chromebit devices. 

Perhaps you could use an I/O Module (Axis P8221) and hook it up to an electric eye to turn on/off when the lights change? I haven't tried this, just guessing.
