NX Witness and Hikvision flip/rotate/mirror Settings
AnsweredHi there,
there seems to be an issue when setting up Hikvision DS-2CD2065G1-I camera with LEFT/RIGHT mirror effect. NX Client seems to be ok, but whenever I am checking the recording, the mirror effect is not applied. that means NX is not respecting the setting on the camera when recording the stream.
It does happen regardless the option "Allow System to optimize camera setting" is not selected.
NX server version is: 4.2.0.32840
When watching the streaming live from another app, it works fine as well as using the web browser.

Hi Igor Peixoto,
We have tried to replicate the issue you met: we set the camera to flip horizontal, and get the correct flipping stream on Nx Client also the recording video.
Could you provide the screen recording of the issue you met for further investigation?
Please refer to our user manual, go to Working with Nx Witness > Screen Recording page for the instructions.
Please make sure you record the following steps:
1. Play the stream before setting flip image
2. Set the flip image on the camera
3. Play the stream after setting flip image
4. Play the recording after setting flip image
5. Export the recording and play the files
Please refer to our user manual, go to Working with Nx Witness > Playback in Nx Witness > Exporting Video for the instructions.Thank you.

Hi Anderson,
After further investigation and testing, I think I know what is happening...
Is it possible to implement a feature to allow us to to reflect the image (Mirror Effect) in NX other then relying on this effect directly set on the Camera Settings?
In NX Client we can rotate the image, but cannot reflect the image like a mirror.

Hi Igor Peixoto,
Could you share your use case and scenario with us? Since the camera supports image rotation and mirroring already, it is likely you already have the function on the camera. Is there any reason that you must have this on VMS not the camera?
If the requirement is from a specific project, likely you can contact the local distributor to work on it. Where are you based at the moment? We can bridge you and the local distributor for such requests accordingly.

Ok. Let me explain it better:
I have been working on a prototype CCTV system on a vehicle.
One of the cameras is set up facing backwards acting as a reverse camera as well as dash cam recording and streaming live.
In order for this camera to work as a rear view mirror, it needs to have the image reversed (mirrored), otherwise when you look at the display, the image would confuse the driver regarding left and right. Applying the Mirror Effect directly to the Camera resolves this problem.
However, when you need to look at the playback for past footage, the image will look funny as the image will be reversed due to the mirror effect on the source (camera).
In order to get it working properly, allowing me to view live stream with Mirror effect and having the recordings without the Mirror effect, we would need NX to have an option in the Camera Recording Tab to enable/disable Mirror Effect just like there is one for rotate. Ideally we would like it to apply only to the frames that will be recorded - Live stream is ok and can be controlled from within the source (Camera).
This way if I have the camera set to mirror the image, I would just need to set NX to also mirror the image before recording it (double mirroring would cancel out the mirror effect from the source) which would work perfectly.
Regardless my need, having the option to mirror the image in NX should not be too complicate and I see it should be there by default.
Thank you.

Hi Igor Peixoto,
I do not know how you use the stream within your application, but if you add it as an RTSP stream, you might be able to mirror with a certain parameter in the RTSP URL.
In this way you can mirror it in your application and add it as a regular camera in Nx Witness.

Right. Can I do it in NX rather then in the other application? In this case I would edit the RTSP url with a parameter to mirror the image on the specific camera...

Hi Igor Peixoto,
You could, please refer to THIS support article as a reference.
We recommend adding the camera natively since you can benefit from device optimization, frame rate settings, etc in the recording schedule, possible in-camera analytics, etc. but you could add the camera as an RTSP stream just fine.

would you know what the parameter is for "flip horizontally" effect so that I could add it to my camera in NX? Stream: "rtsp://192.168.111.50:554/ISAPI/Streaming/channels/101"

Hi Igor Peixoto,
I'm sorry, but don't know the URL to mirror the image. I would recommend to reach out to Hikvision, they should be able to tell you.

Ok.. I have tried using VLC as the player but unfortunately it does not support image flip etc on a mobile device app, only in Windows full desktop app.
So, Is it possible to request as a feature request that NX adds an option to Flip image vertically and horizontally, under the same tab where we can rotate image?

Hi Igor Peixoto,
I have raised this request to our developing team. However, I am not able to tell whether it will be implemented, nor any firm schedule when it will be released.

This is something. I appreciate it.
If I had more requests, what is the best and most appropriated way to do it? Is it still via this community page?
