We often receive inquiries regarding the preservation of bookmarks beyond the retention period of the Main data storage. Fortunately, achieving this is a straightforward process through the utilization of the Backup feature.
Prerequisites
In order to ensure the preservation of your bookmarks, it is vital to have a designated storage drive specifically dedicated to storing them. Alternatively, for smaller systems, utilizing a dedicated partition on the existing drive can be a suitable option, as long as the speed and capacity of this drive are sufficient.
NOTE: This designated drive or partition should exceed 10% of the size of the largest drive in your system, with a minimum capacity of 50 GB. For instance, if a user has a 10 TB drive enabled on the server, all other drives with a capacity of less than 1 TB will be disabled and therefore inaccessible on the server.
Configuration
- Open the Server Setting menu, tab Storage Management
- Enable Backup for the designated drive or partition
- Select OK
- Open the tab Backup
- Select the applicable cameras and related settings you want to save the bookmark from to the dedicated storage and under What to back up, you select Bookmarks
- Select OK
NOTE: Please be aware that if you have set a specific retention time in the Camera Settings menu under the Recording tab, the backup period for both the Main storage and the Backup storage will be identical. However, if you have not set a maximum retention time for the Main storage, and if the data rotates once it reaches the maximum drive capacity, the same principle applies to the Backup storage. Consequently, it is possible for the retention time of the Backup storage to be significantly longer than that of the Main storage, depending of course on total capacity of the Backup storage and size of each Bookmark event.
