This article describes the password requirements for your VMS and explains how to reset a forgotten password for different account types.
Password requirements
To maintain system security, your Nx Witness password must meet the following criteria:
Contain at least 8 characters.
Include at least two types of characters (for example: uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, or symbols).
Exclude any of the 1,000 most common passwords. Nx Witness updates this blocklist with every software release.
| NOTE: You cannot modify these default requirements within the VMS. If your organization requires a stricter password policy, use LDAP or Active Directory integration to enforce your own internal rules. |
Reset a user password
The method to reset your password depends on how your system is connected.
Cloud-connected systems
If your system connects to Nx Cloud, you can change your password at any time.
Open the login page.
Click the built-in password reset link and follow the on-screen instructions.
Local systems
If you forget your password on a local system, contact your System Owner or System Administrator to reset it for you.
Reset the local admin password
To protect system integrity, we follows a strict chain of trust hierarchy to authorize local admin password resets:
User > Administrator > Integrator > Reseller > Network Optix
This hierarchy ensures that unauthorized individuals cannot gain administrative access to your system.
To request a local admin password reset, complete the following steps:
Contact the vendor or integrator who supplied your VMS.
Arrange for remote access to the device running the Media Server. The support team requires access using one of the following methods:
Windows or Linux: TeamViewer
Linux: SSH
The Support Team will reset and replace the password with a new generic password
| NOTE: After the support team resets the local admin account, log in and replace the generic temporary password immediately. Ensure your new password complies with your organization's internal password security standards. |
