Data Drive sizing/spread
AnsweredWe build a lot of NVR units using DW spectrum. We typically use drives in configuration as follows: 1-SSD for OS. Then we use WD purple drives for the video storage. We have always been under the assumption that all video strorage drives need to be the same size. So if we want a 9TB total storage we would need to use 3-3TB drives instead of 1-6TB and 1-3TB. Can you confirm or deny if this is the correct thinking or can we mix and match any size drives together for video storage? I really appreciate everything you have done with this product!

Hi Tim,
Thanks for your questions and feedback. Your configuration is really correct.
The configuration "1-SSD for OS. Then we use WD purple drives for the video storage." is also suggested to anyone who uses any VMS and NVR. It is quite important to separate the HDD for different purposes.
Regarding the HDD selection, you are correct. The same capacity, same RPM and same model would be better.
This is because the storage management algorithm.DW Spectrum would evenly distributed the footage on all available storage/HDD, so same size and same performance of HDD would be better. Using the same capacity HDD will also gives you the better prediction of footage recycle.
Thanks.
