Carrier Grade NAT and NX Witness
CompletedHowdy,
Hopefully someone has done this before.
I need to setup NX Witness behind a 4G device, unfortunately the 4G proved uses carrier grade NAT so no publicly rout-able IP address, no port forwarding etc. Will NXwitness connected to NXcloud allow remote viewing? Or am I screwed? Public IP is not an option with this setup due to carrier limitation.
Hopefully that all makes sense.
Thanks

Hi Sam,
I totally understand the issue, but unfortunately, the Nx Cloud doesn't help you.
I noticed you are from Australia and I will ask my colleagues down under which providers can provide a public IP.
Sometimes it helps to call the support desk of your provider a few times until you get someone that understands your issue or is so confused the will connect you to the 2nd or 3rd tier support which is able to provide you a public IP.

Hey Sam
We use a lot of 3/4G - If you are using Telstra you can do 1 of 2 things.
1 - Contact your Telstra business support rep and request they enable the service on the telstra.extranet APN. (extra $5.00/month last time we did this)
2 - If they wont do this have a look at someone like https://www.m2mone.com.au/ they will allow you to setup services using extranet.
Extranet removes the second layer of NAT that Telstra employ and allows a dynamic public IP address - from here NX cloud will work (possibly with a port forward depends on the router)
Hope this helps
Tim

Hi Sam,
I got a similar response from my colleague; Telstra is the one you need with their extranet service.

Thanks guys, well aware of Telstra Extranet. Unfortunately im doing this on a a consumer Optus plan as its at my parents. Have deployed on Telstra.Extranet and NX no issues a few times now.
It'll only be a stop cap while we wait for a fixed line service. I did some testing with my mobile phone hot spotted to the machine in question and NX Cloud seemed to work ok... so will see what happens!

So oddly enough... NX Cloud works. I can view he cameras on the web interface no issues.
The iOS app for some reason though is sporadic... sometimes its fine, sometimes it show offline.

Hey Sam - Good to hear. FYI - sporadic connections on Mobile could just be a sporadic network connection. We're only as stable as the network we reside on. If you have a strong network connection and keep seeing issues, though, make sure to open a ticket so our Cloud team can take a look at what potential issues there may be.

Hello i came to this topic after 5 years since someone's last reply. Hopefully something has changed now. I am actually following the online certification program and in lecture number 5 (the one about cloud) is reported : network optix NAT traversal and Cloud data Proxy Technology that should allow to "proxy via NX Cloud" if a direct connection cannot be made"
IMHO this means we can win over NAT444/CG NAT
Can anybody please confirm?

Hi Luca Fogliati,
Confirmed. A Carrier-grade NAT shouldn't stop you from using the Nx Cloud nowadays.

Hi Norman
Thank you for your prompt reply .May i know if there is any particular setting to apply on NVR or cloud administration page or is it an automatically activating function when needed?

Hi Luca Fogliati,
There are no settings for the Nx Cloud required.
