Rule Based on Selected Portion of Camera View
AnsweredRight now there's a rule where when motion starts happening in a camera view, it can trigger a response (such as audible announcement, send an email alert, etc).
It would be excellent if it could be applied to just a selected portion of a camera view.
For example, it could be that if persons are walking along a path in a camera view, that's completely fine and there's people walking along there all the time. But if in a rare instance someone walks off the path towards where there is a cliff at the left, it would be great to be able to be able to have a rule to trigger a response (audible alert, email sent, etc), without having to get an alert every time there is any movement in the camera view as a whole (which could be very often).
I guess you could call that Rule Based on Selected Region of Interest.

Hi Edward,
You are right this would be a good feature, but actually, we already can offer this due to the analytics integration we have with Axis, Hanwha, Hikvision and VCA Technology (more to come in the future).
These manufacturers can offer analytics, like region of interest, which you can add to a rule in Nx Witness.

Also you can add analytics that can send a generic event to Nx Witness. For example from cameras and software from Bosch, Milesight, VCA Technologies, Allgovision (please check for the availability at the various suppliers).

My understanding, with Hanwha at least, is that it is still only a single event per camera analytic. Even though they have 8 areas or lines, it is still one per camera and there is no way to differentiate the zones for a specific alert...

Matthew, this might be true, although you can use multiple analytics events for various reasons. E.g. combine line crossing for one event and intrusion detections for another event.
In general, applications (cameras and/or software) that allow you to send an HTTP event to the Nx Witness Media Server provide more flexibility.

It would be nice though if this were built into the Nx Witness interface (instead of the camera's interface) so you didn't have to remote into the DVR's LAN to make a change to the region of interest or whatever.

Hi Jeff,
It would be nice indeed, but I don't expect this to be available soon since not all manufacturers enable this option.

Guys, this is frequently asked feature and also known as MD zones.
We admit it's nice to have and totally recognize the user story. We believe it must be done sooner or later.

Thanks for the rough estimate. I'll look forward to it when it is available.
