Storage issues, HDD is slowing down recording for camera
AnsweredHello,
We have been having an issue with several of our servers. I am going to try to lay this out but there's a lot to go through. We get issues at least once a day where it says HDD/SSD is slowing down recording for camera and then followed by the camera ID.
We are running on brand new dell poweredge servers. These are built by Velasea. We have had the hardware checked countless times by them. Like over and over and over again. The hardware seems to be in a healthy state. One of our servers has 200 tb of storage with a Dell H755 Perc adapter on firmware that is dated Oct 2023. Our bitrate is about 230mb/s.
Here is what we have tried:
Moved cameras to another server to lower bitrate
lowered fps
checked to make sure the video drive indexing was off
setting the raid to always write back
checked each hardware component
changed from h.265 to h.264
Here is what we have the recording set as:
66 cameras
Record always, motion
FPS: 15
Quality: Medium
Pre-record: 25 s
Post-record: 25 s
All objects tracking is on, extended object information is on
Current bitrate as I write this is 212mb/s but earlier to day was as high as 286 mb/s
To sum it up, I have a few questions.
We don't notice any gaps in footage. Are we at risk of a hard drive failing?
Does anyone have answers to this issue?
We are running all hanwha cameras. I know for a fact I have left things out but I am sure this is enough to get this thread started.

Hi Elijah G Webb,
Here are the support articles talking about the storage error on Nx Witness:
Generally, if the Nx Server only reports a low number of storage issues per day, and there is no footage loss, it's likely not a cause for concern. However, if the Nx Server reports storage issues with higher frequency, it may indicate a problem that needs to be addressed.
As a precaution, please provide the following information for analysis:- Could you refer to this support ARTICLE to export the Storage Issue entries from the Event Log and share the log file with us?
- Please check if any periodic tasks are running on the Dell PowerEdge server or any other tasks that may access the storage device.
Additionally:- Please refer to this support ARTICLE to set the server log level to DEBUG, so we can capture more detailed logs if required later.
- If possible, please stop the recording on all cameras and perform a health check on the HDDs to ensure they are in good condition.
Afterward, remove the video archive index file (.nxdb) on the storage volume and run the reindex process.
Regarding the configuration:changed from h.265 to h.264
The H.265 should create less traffic and bitrate compared to H.264, you may want to consider reverting to H.265 to reduce traffic.
We have received the support ticket you submitted as well, please reply to the ticket mail for further tracking and analysis of this issue.
Thank you.
