Insert streaming audio source to camera feed
AnsweredIs there a way to "merge" an audio source in DW Spectrum to a camera stream? I know we can do this with a given camera if it has an analog audio input, but we are trying to do this at scale and it is inconvenient to this at the edge. I know there is a way to manually edit primary and secondary video streams, but is there a way to choose the audio stream associated with a camera?

Hi Joe,
If you are asking about mapping the audio from a microphone to a specific camera, we do support this feature.
To enable it, go to Camera Settings > Audio section, enable Audio, then select "Use audio stream from another device" and choose the desired device.
You can add the audio device through the ONVIF protocol, or RTSP/HTTP stream to the VMS, and then it can be mapped to the camera. If this function does not meet your requirement or if I have misunderstood your request, please provide more information about your specific use case so we can better assist you.
Thank you.

Hi Jon Dillabaugh,
Can you elaborate a bit more specific, what it is you want to achieve?
Do I understand it correctly, that you want to merge the audio of device A, into the video stream of device B, and stream this combination to a 3rd party streaming platform?
If that is the case, I might have a hint for you, how to achieve that, outside Nx Witness. -
Hi Jon Dillabaugh,
I didn't test it, but you should be able to achieve this with either FFmpeg or OBS Studio.
Both work fine when you want to convert an RTSP stream into an RTMP stream, which should work with BoxCast.FFmgpeg is the most solid tool, but has a higher learning curve, but is awesome and stable.
OBS Studio is pretty easy to set up, but sometimes is less stable and connections tend to break when the connections aren't optimal.
Allow me, to discuss internally how to collect the audio only from a device, and get back at you.For now, have a great weekend ahead!

Thanks for that info. We can’t use a PC app for this. We need to scale this and the cost and unreliability of PCs isn’t optimal. This needs to be done in hardware. We are using a Kiloview product to transcode the RTSP to RTMP but it doesn’t allow us to inject another audio stream. The UNV cameras in use also don’t have compliant audio streams for YouTube either.

Hi Jon Dillabaugh,
Perhaps camstreamer, more specific the camswitcher application, is a solution that suits your needs?

Hi Jon Dillabaugh,
One final note. I just got feedback from one of our server developers, and unfortunately, there is no option to extract the audio stream as RTSP, to merge it with a video stream through our software.
