When uninstalling Nx Witness, the default behavior of Nx Witness is to leave a few bits of information regarding the user's preferences in the operating system in case a user re-installs the software or is upgrading from one version to another.
However, in some cases, users may want to fully remove Nx Witness. Follow the steps below to clear out any Nx Witness remnants from your machine.
How to do a clean uninstallation
For Windows:
- Using the Nx Witness installer or Windows Control Panel, initiate the uninstallation process and follow any guidance prompts until complete.
- Restart your computer.
- To remove any remnants of the Server application (other than recorded video files) and Desktop application, delete the following folders:
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Network Optix
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Network Optix
- To remove any recorded video, navigate to the storage location you set up for your Server and find the HD Witness Media folder.
For Ubuntu Linux:
- Using the Gdebi Package Installer that was used during the Nx Witness installation process, remove the Nx Server and Nx Desktop packages, and follow any guidance prompts until complete.
- Restart your computer.
- To remove any remnants of the Server application (other than recorded video files) and Desktop application, delete the following folders:
/opt/networkoptix/
/home/$USER/.config/'Network Optix'/
/home/$USER/.local/share/'Network Optix'/
- To remove any recorded video, navigate to the storage location you set up for your Server and find the HD Witness Media folder.
For macOS:
To do a clean uninstallation of Nx Desktop for macOS, you will need to remove the following files and folders:
/Applications/Nx Witness.app
/System/Volumes/Data/Users/<USER NAME>/.local/share/Network Optix
/System/Volumes/Data/Users/<USER NAME>/Library/Application Support/Network Optix
/System/Volumes/Data/Users/<USER NAME>/Library/Caches/Network Optix
After you removed these files and folders, assure you also removed these files and folders from the Trash bin as well.
After removing all the files and folders, you can install the desired version of the Nx Desktop.
