Failed to connect to media server in Zscaler security system
CompletedHi
I failed to connect a media server from my company's laptop.
Zscaler, which is a cloud security system, is installed into my laptop. And, I suspect Zscaler blocked a communication between my laptop and the media server caused because I successfully connected the media server when Zscaler is disabled. So I asked IT department to allow a communication with NxWitness in Zscaler security system. But they told that they cannot disable Zscaler system in my laptop because of security reason. Instead, they tried to investigate a root cause in order to change Zscaler setting to allow only necessary communication. Unfortunately they have not found the root cause so far.
So, could you kindly support us to find the reason why NxWitness client and media server failed to make connection? I believe this can help us know how to change Zscaler setting.
I have already retrieved media server log. (The issue occurred around 2022-10-24 21:32 pm) . So please let me know how to give you the log file.

NxWitness media server version : 5.0.0.35270.

Hi Tomohiro Urata,
I assume you use a local connection with your laptop on the same network as the Nx Mediaserver, port 7001 needs to be accessible for you.
If you use a cloud connection, some Firewall rules need to be created. If you share THIS support article with the IT team, they'll know what to do.

Hi Norman,
Thank you for your quick response.
I will share the article with our IT team to change firewall rule.
On the other hands, I found a strange point.
I successfully accessed Nx media server whose version is 4.2. What is a difference between 5.0 and 4.2? If you have any observations, could you kindly let me know it?

Hi Tomohiro Urata,
In that case, please first upgrade to the latest version of Nx Witness with the following in-client update credentials:
Build: 35745
Password: x7fivl0 -
We have not heard back from you in a while, so we are going to assume your question has been resolved and set this topic to 'Completed'.

Sorry for late reply.
Yes we solved the problem. It was caused by Zscaler.
When our IT team changed Zscaler firewall setting, I was able to access Nx server successfully.
Thank you.
