Primary Boot Drive Failure
AnsweredHelp...my NX Server failed last night, I've worked the issue out to be the M.2 which has died a horrible death and is not able to be restored. The storage array seems to be intact thankfully, but I'm just wondering how I obtain the HWID and licence keys so I can restore my server to it's former glory. I've reinstalled Windows on a new M.2 and have installed the server/client bundle without any issues. Also how do I ensure that the storage database is intact when I get things up and running again?

Typically, when the OS drive died and is replaced with a new one and the same OS, the HWID should remain the same. So, once you installed Nx on the new drive, you can add the license keys, and they will apply immediately.
If you or your reseller don't know the license keys anymore, you can share the HWID, and we can check it and will share these with you confidentially through a support ticket. Obviously, this only applies if the HWID remained the same.
Once you added the storage to the system again, you reindex the storage, all data should be available again.
Databases on the OS drive are obviously lost, unless you made periodically backups. In that case you can restore them as describe HERE.0 -

Thanks for that. I've been able to restore the recordings as the database was on a separate drive array; however, I don't have the licence keys available. I'm presuming that the HWID has remained the same, it's 058f4876ae5972bea7eace63de404e4d43, hopefully this is correct and you can send me the keys. There are 61 cameras in our server.

Unfortunately, the HWID doesn't reveal any licenses.
Can you perhaps access the files on the old SSD? If so, please share the hw_log.log file with us. This file should be located at:
For Windows:
C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Network Optix\Network Optix Media Server\log
For Ubuntu:
/opt/networkoptix/mediaserver/var/log/
If you really can't access the disk anymore, please contact your reseller, most likely they have a list of licenses they supplied to you and in case this isn't possible, please submit a support ticket to our license team. Perhaps they can do something for you.

Hi Norman,
I've tried everything at my disposal to recover the disk data; however, it is beyond repair according to some of the tools that I've used. I have a spare laptop with a spare M.2 slot available and inserted it, the drive shows up in File Manager; however, is not accessible, the drive also shows up as healthy in Disk Management. It won't allow me to scan the using chkdsk as it's being listed as a RAW disk. I've attempted to contact the contractor who installed the server for us in 2019 to obtain the keys; however, they haven't gotten back to me. This is becoming urgent as we are an Aged Care company who requires 24/7 recording of CCTV footage for legislative purposes. How do I submit a support ticket if I don't have the keys or the correct HWID?

Hi Norman,
I've managed to gain access to the files using a Linux SystemRescue USB disk. I've accessed the hw_log.log file. Which is below (sorry Zendesk wouldn't allow me to attach the file for some reason). Any assistance you can provide to recover the licences would be greatly appreciated.
