Remote Milesight CCTV(4G) Point back to HQ Server
AnsweredHi All,
We are having a remote CCTV using 4G Sim Card, and we are thinking what is the best and most stable way to link it back to our HQ NX Server. (as low cost as possible)
We are exploring a few methods but are not sure which one will be the most cost effective or easiest in the long run
1) VPN link both remote site together
2) Setup up DDNS on remote site and add it in NX Witness
3) Setup NX Server at remote CCTV site and hive it over the cloud with the HQ NX Server
is there a method for us to directly add the remote CCTV site steam into the HQ server ?
Appreciate all if any help or view is given.

Hi @...,
I am not able to tell which option costs less since the price of the device and the service vary. I can only provide some opinions about the security, stability and maintenance effort of these options. Please note that since I do not get a clear picture of your environment, I assume you have multiple remote sites, and each of the sites has more than one camera.
1) VPN link both remote site together
Pros:
- This is a secure option (depending on the VPN encryption you choose).
Cons:
- Less stable option, since the cellular network is not as stable as the wired network.
- Hard to maintain if you have multiple remote sites.
- As far as I know, most of the cameras do not support VPN, you will likely need a gateway or computer to handle the VPN connection. However, if you choose to deploy a computer on a remote site, option 3 might be a more stable approach.
2) Setup up DDNS on remote site and add it in NX Witness
Pros:
- If your camera has built-in DDNS function, you might not need to deploy additional networking devices or computers. If not, you still need a gateway or computer to handle the DDNS function.
Cons:
- Less secure, the camera ports will be exposed on the internet.
- Less stable, same reason as option 1.
- Hard to maintain if you have multiple sites, besides, you might need to pay for the domain name.
3) Setup NX Server at remote CCTV site and hive it over the cloud with the HQ NX Server
Pros:
- Secure, please refer to our support articles for the introduction of the security of Nx Witness and Nx Cloud, besides, no need to expose any port to the internet.
- Stable, since the Nx Server locates on the remote site, the interruption of the cellular network will not interrupt the recording. You could also backup the video archive to the HQ, to increase the security of the recording files.
- Easy to maintain, no additional networking setting except bringing up the cellular network, no open ports or port redirecting requires, the rest of the connections will be handled by Nx Cloud.
- Nx Cloud is free to use.
Cons:
- You will need to deploy a computer running Nx Server on each remote site.
is there a method for us to directly add the remote CCTV site steam into the HQ server ?
Yes, you can add the remote camera to the Nx Server by the IP address (if the camera gets the static IP address) or domain name.
Please let me know if you have any further questions, or the above replies do not answer your questions.
Also, please provide more information about your environment with us, which can be helpful for us to understand the scenario and let us provide more accurate suggestions to you.Thank you.
