Restrict Users by Client Type
Please consider adding an access-control option that allows administrators to restrict a user or role to specific Nx Witness client types:
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Web
For example, you can set the “Mobile Only” option for a user, which will prevent access to that account via the desktop or web client.
Reason
The main issue is that the mobile client limits the maximum duration of a video clip that can be exported to 20 minutes, whereas the desktop client has no such limitation.
As a result, users who are allowed to use the desktop client can upload hours or even days of recorded video. This can place a significant load on our hive, network, and storage.
Use Case
Therefore, our immediate plan is to restrict access to the mobile client only for certain users, so they cannot circumvent the upload limit in the mobile client by switching to the desktop client.
Strict limit on the duration of exported videos for all client types
An even better solution would be to set a server-side maximum export/download duration for each user or role (e.g., 20 minutes), which would apply regardless of the client used.
However, client-type restrictions would also be useful as a general access control feature for cloud deployments.
Is there currently a way to implement any of these solutions using Nx Witness / Nx Cloud settings or the API? If not, we would like to propose this functionality as a new feature.

Hi Energokub, LLC,
Currently, you cannot configure the VMS to achieve this. Only on the network level, you might be able to configure this, depending on the firewall applications that are used.
I moved your topic from the Developer Forum to Feature Feedback section, so our Product Team can take notice of it.
Best regards.
