Missing footage from a specific VMS in the merge.
AnsweredHi.
On Thursday 23/05/26 there was an incident on one of our sites where the backup storage mistakenly marked as the main (supposed to be backup) was selected.
There’s also a much larger storage which was supposed to be the main that was attached to the merge.
This storage became full and the server stopped functioning properly with cameras just migrating to a different server in the merge.
Our local IT guy decided to switch the roles between the storages and marked the bigger storage as the main and the smaller storage as the backup.
Since then, we have an issue where all the footage on that server is missing from the 30th of April up until the 22nd of May, so almost a month of footage is missing up until the switch between the storage roles.

In scenarios like this, it is usually helpful to review the Camera Configurations, Storage Configuration, Audit Trail, and System logs to verify whether the system settings match the expected actions.
To illustrate how retention works, here is a simplified overview of the default behavior:
- Scenario A: If the main storage is 100 TB with a data retention period of approximately 30 days, a 20 TB backup storage volume will keep roughly 6 days of backup retention.
- Scenario B: Conversely, if the main storage is 20 TB , holding approximately 6 days of data, and the backup storage is 100 TB, the backup storage will still accommodate approximately 30 days of retention.
Best regards.
