Licenses assignment to Nx servers in a hive
AnsweredI've got a question about proper licenses assignment to Nx servers in a hive.
Scenario. Local network.
- 640 Nx licenses
- we have 5 servers in a hive, so all servers are equally important mirror copies of the system configuration
- each of servers is recording 128 channels
However, one of the servers (let's call it a "master") is located in a physically safest place and failure-free, therefore, we want to use it as a main system config replicator to other servers, for example we always change system configuration on this server only and then all changes are automatically replicated to all other servers.
Now, I think we can assign all licenses keys to the "master" server and the remaining servers will automatically get them and use them in a hive. But maybe there is some contraindication to assign all the 640 licenses to that safest server ? What is your opinion about this ?

Hi Tomasz Polus
Our apologies for the delayed response.
Your practice is a sensible practice by assigning the license to the server in physically the safest place and failure-free configuration. However, there is no need to change system configurations on that specific server, since the hive synchronization is close to instant.
In the inevitable occasion that the license server fails, the system will remain recording for 30 days so there is enough time to recover or replace the server that holds the licenses.
There is no preferred practice in this case, but your decision is probably the most transparent and easiest to manage.
