Will the Android mobile app run on Android TV?
AnsweredWould the Android mobile app run on an Android TV if side loaded? If not, is there a lot of work involved to give us an official Android TV version?

Hi Jeff Jones,
I never tried it on a television. But I had a Android TV box in the past and that worked just fine. Be aware that such applications aren't intended for 24/7 use, and might crash or freeze over time.

Just attempted it on a Xiaomi Mi Box S with Android 9 and it doesn't want to install.

Hi Jeff,
The first thing that comes to mind is that it is a 32-bit device.
The app in the Playstore is suitable for 64-bit devices.
You can download the 32-bit version through the following link:

32 bit seems to have installed, except it doesn't create an app icon and doesn't seem to respond to the remote control at all. So definitely doesn't seem to be customer friendly yet, even for a restricted environment.
It would be nice if eventually we could get an official Android TV apk in the store.

I pushed it to a firestick/smart tv before and it did not take external remote commands, had to install another program to emulate that. Overall it is not worth the trouble, may as well buy a NUC install Ubuntu and NX Client and the all the smart tv apps. Anything else is mostly suited for LAN based transmission.

Hi Jeff Jones,
I can promise anything, since, like @... mentioned already, in most projects the integrator mounts a NUC or a similar device to the back of a monitor.
Although it is initially more expensive, the OS support also lasts a lot longer and security update are more frequent. For smaller systems, it also can be an affordable failover server as well.
I would recommend submitting the desire for a dedicated smart TV app in our New Feature Ideas section to bring it under the attention of our product team.
