Avigilon H4 motion detection not working

I have an Avigilon 0C-H4A-4MH-360 multisensor camera, and each camera appears as a network stream. 

I can't make the NX motion detection work on it at all.  The areas are selected and the motion sensing is turned on, but no events are returned.   It's running firmware 3.30.0.42, the latest.  Is there anything I can do to fix this?

  Hi Gordon Remmington,

  I assume you have the 20C-H4A-4MH-360. 
  This model should work. The firmware you mention is also reported, but there is also newer firmware (3.30.0.80(30560)) available which is more popular within Nx Witness. 

  I would check the resolution of the secondary stream. This should be kept on auto, and if manually increased, should not exceed 1024 x 768 pixels, otherwise motion detection won't work. 
  
  In general, when motion detection doesn't work, people increased the resolution of the secondary stream too much,

  Due to limited bandwidths the camera is configured manually, which has probably caused the issue.  Avigilon's web interface doesn't appear to let me alter the secondary stream settings.

  However I have used the 'force motion detection for stream' option which has made the function work OK, so all sorted for now.
