Excessive HDD Activity When Cameras are Offline?
AnsweredAt a remote location I have a custom built PC running Windows 10 Pro and DWS v4.0 where a local lightning strike took out the onboard NIC, so we took it offline to replace the NIC. The server has two 8TB HDDs for storage and about 12 cameras normally attached.
While in the shop we noticed that after sitting for a while the HDD activity jumps up to 99% on each data drive and runs for hours. It seems to alternate between the two hard drives. Never both at the same time. The excessive HDD activity shuts down immediately when we disable DWS server from the system tray.
None of our other working DVRs show that kind of maxed out HDD activity even with more cameras attached. Is this something that might happen when all the cameras are offline or missing? Does the server constantly access the HDDs in an attempt to find the missing cameras?
We are trying to decide if we should just take the DVR back out to the remote location and hope for the best, or if there might be something else wrong as a result of the lightning strike.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with seeing excessive HDD activity?

Hi Jeff,
I haven't seen such an issue before, but I will ask around if someone heard about this issue before and have a solution for it.
Which build number of DW Spectrum are you using? You can see this when you connect to the system and press f1

Build 4.0.0.29990

H Jeff,
I checked the issue internally and it is an unknown issue and we would like to investigate it some more.
Therefore I created a support ticket on your behalf and we can continue the investigation from there and this topic will be updated as soon as we found the solution.0 -
Case was investigated and it seemed like an HDD issue.
