Best practice - NX Server on VM

Hello,

We have a project where we need to install NX Media Server on more than 200 VM's (VMWare), different server hw.

The IT guys want to build one VM and replicate it on all the servers with NX preinstalled.

What you recommend for best practice in terms of license activation? I'm thinking on not having any issues with the GUID of the systems.

I don't know if it is clear enough.

  Hi Trifan,

   

  Thanks for your questions. There are three things need to be discussed.

   

  1) Nx Witness is not yet officially fully support the launching on VM. It is on the experimental support stage.

  We strongly recommend you put SERVER only on the VM. Since the Nx Desktop Client would need OpenGL 2.1 supported. 

  Sometime, we found the graphics on the VM is only "compatible" not support. It would lead some unexpected behaviors then.

  So, only mediaserver would be highly suggested.

   

  2) Please be aware of the serverGUID.

  Before you start the procedure, please make sure the mediaserver is fully stopped.

  You would need to find the parameter in the configuration file or registry :

  - Ubuntu : /opt/networkoptix/mediaserver/etc/mediaserver.conf
  - Windows : Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Optix\Network Optix Media Server

  Find the parameter, serverGUID.

  You need to delete this value and leave it blank.

   

  3) Please be aware of the guidIsHWID.

  This is the main thing for license activation.

  Before you start the procedure, please make sure the mediaserver is fully stopped.

  You would need to find the parameter in the configuration file or registry :

  - Ubuntu : /opt/networkoptix/mediaserver/etc/mediaserver.conf
  - Windows : Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Optix\Network Optix Media Server

  Find the parameter, guidIsHWID.

  You need to delete this key in the registry or this line in Ubuntu configuration.

   

  4) It is suggested that you clone the image right after install the Nx mediaserver before you initialize it.

  So the steps would be like:

  1. Create a VM and install the Guest OS.

  2. Install the Nx mediaserver and complete the install process.

  3. Stop the mediaserver completely.

  4. Execute the steps above. (2) and (3)

  5. Clone the image.
