We expect the server to work on RPI4 without any issues, but we didn't have a chance to do thorough testing in-house yet.

If you get your hands on it - we would appreciate feedback on how it works.

It looks like the latest beta version of DW Spectrum will auto start on Pi4. This was basically what I was looking for so no reason to run Ubuntu. Very excited about this.

    Hi John Bazyk

The media server application should start automatically on any supported OS.

So not only on the RPI4, but also on the other RPI or other supported ARM SBC.

hi John Bazyk have you had a chance to do the solar powered camera units? I'm just starting development on this and wondering if you could share any tips or progress, thanks!

    Hi Kris Hogh,

Although I haven't done this myself (yet), I found some interesting articles online about solar powering a Raspberry Pi.

LINK 1 Solar Powered Nature Camera
LINK 2 Solar Powered Raspberry Pi
LINK 3 Solar Power for Raspberry Pi
LINK 4 How to Build a Solar-Powered Raspberry Pi

Definitely something for me to build as well, since I should have a solar panel somewhere and some Raspberry Pi's.

Since I can run Nx Client on Android, can I run Nx Client on Pi4 8G running ubuntu20.04?

    Thanks , Miro

    Hi Miro Zielinski,

You can run the Nx Witness Mobile client on Android, but you can't run this one on a RPI4 with Ubuntu.
We have Nx Witness Desktop Client for ARM available, but it was made with the Nvidia Jetson Nano in mind.

You might be able to run it on a RPI4 though, but we never tried it and therefore we do not officially support it.
But it is an interesting experiment, and we love to hear the outcome. I would use Raspbian instead of Ubuntu since it uses less resources.

    Please check our support articles regarding ARM;

I have tried on RPi4 2GB and 4GB versions with Ubuntu but the 2gb wouldn't launch as didn't have enough memory and the 4gb got a bit further was missing a few dependencies and I gave up. Raspbian didn't like the package for the NVIDIA jestsen client. That's about as far as I got.

On another note I'm successfully running multiple raspberry pi 4 NX servers in the field and they are awesome. I am also successfully running multiple RPi4s on a wireless mesh network using Unifi wifi mesh ACs. The one issue I'm having though is the RPI4 NX seems to miss the it's heartbeat quite frequently and spends a lot of its time as "uncontactable" but once it's available the connection is fine so trying to figure that out.

    Hi Kris Hogh,

Which version of Ubuntu have you tried? For the RPI, you should use Ubuntu Core. The regular Ubuntu server and desktop can't be used on the RPI as far as I know.

The only OS I used on the RPI are Raspbian (officially supported) and DietPi (not supported) and never used the client on anything else than the Nvidia Jetson Nano, so I can't give you much direction to resolve it for the RPI4.

Regarding the server missing the heartbeat, can you elaborate a bit more about the system? Does it happen in a single RPI system or have you merged multiple RPI as one system? I case of the last option; are they all in the same LAN or also in the WAN? For the ARM based servers we sold in the past we had a limitation of 2 servers in a system otherwise such issues might occur. When using more powerful x64 equipment, you can merge up to 100 servers in a system.

Thanks. This happens on multiple separate systems all running raspbian. I didn't realise the 2 server limit but I'll keep that in mind for any future installations.

Installed Raspberry OS 64 bit, Gdebi and NVIDIA Jetson / ARM64 Client Installer. That's all.

Going to have a glass of Dimple as deserved. Did I deserved NX Witness license discount as well since I am running the trial only? I hope so.

    Have a nice evening.

Nice CPU and RAM load  Miro Zielinski

Enjoy the drink! I don't do anything with sales, so I can't comment on discounts, but I'm more than happy to extend your trials licenses for a while. Just let me know.

    Dear Norman,
Thank you for your offer. Im nearly 60 y.o. so if trial will expire in 2041 i will be in the Heaven and This is the win win option. 3 months extension it is no win option. Will need to buy license anyway during my lifetime. I am a sec technician who install lot of CCTV systems. I love Nx systems. I fall in love with Nx from the first sight. I was, i am and I will advocate Nx systems as long as i can.
With RPI's and Nx im playing for my own benefits. Just convinced my wife to install CCTV around the house. That is the story.
    Going to have another glsss...🖐🥃
    Cheers Guys for your input.

    Cześć Andrzej,
As mentioned above I used Nvidia Jetsons ARM64 Client version. Found it in Download section of Network Optix site after login. Good luck.

Hi Andrzej Róg and Miro Zielinski,

In our Nx Cloud portal, you will find a small Download button at the bottom of the screen.
When click this, you will see the download options for your current OS, but you can select another tab for other OS and ARM.

When you select ARM you can download the packages for the 64-Bit client, the 64-bit server application, and the most commonly used 32-Bit server application.

Thanks for the quick response Norman. Fortunately I am running NX server temporarily on my Pi4 with the free trial. Unfortunately I cannot seem to figure out how to install DW spectrum server for which I already own a couple licenses. I was hoping John Bazyk had some guidance since he mentioned he ran DW spectrum server.

    Hi Javier,

The only difference when installing DW Spectrum vs Nx Witness is the package you use.

For DW Spectrum THIS package can be used.

For the rest all steps are equal.

Hey, this thread is kind of long and going off topic but i was hoping someone could help me out. I am a longtime DWspectrum user and love the base NX software.

I am trying to setup my Pi4 8G as a client for my windows based DW Server. The problem i'm having is that i can only install the NXWitness client on ARM, DWspectrum doesn't seem to have any support for ARM. They technically have support for Ubuntu but it doesn't work on Ubuntu for PI due to architecture differences. I already paid for DWspectrum so i cant just change my server to NXWitness. Not really sure what to do.

I need to either find a way to install a DWspectrum client on ARM or get this NXwitness client to connect to my DW server. I keep getting a "Server Incompatible" error when i try so i know it sees it.

Any help would be really appreciated!

    Hi Theodore Doudak,

There is no official client for the RPI4, but we have an experimental client build for 64-bit ARM boards originally intended for the Nvidia Jetson boards, which you can download HERE for DW Spectrum.

    Hi Norman.

Thank you so much for your help, this works perfectly. I just had to upgrade my server from 4.1 to 4.2 but the client is exactly what i needed.

Has there been any more updates on this. I have been scouring the internet for solutions on how to install DW Spectrum on a Raspberry Pi 4 but I have not had any success.

I did however see that the BJMINI's that Digital Watchdog puts out have a ARM.zip file and when opened it has a 64 Bit .deb file inside. I'm thinking this is our answer but I have yet to figure it out. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Currently I'm running a RP 4 with 64 Bit PI OS on it. 8 GB model. Should be more than enough power to run the server like I need, just need help figuring this out please!!!

    Hi Eric,

    What issues do you encounter?
For the raspberry pi, you need to use the 32-bit package.
