Yes this is a something i have gotten multiple requests already from multiple different customers

Indeed. I have the same requirement on multiple projects. We had to add the same camera twice as a workaround.

We have many users who have access to video, but audio should not be.
Our operators must have access to video and audio.

At this stage, 200 cameras were disconnected from audio for all users. How can I solve this problem? In the nearest future I need to buy 100 licenses and I don't know when our problem will be solved.

    Hello everyone,

I don't know how it happened that none of my colleges has left a comment in this thread before. Sorry for that.

The good thing is that we have an eye on this feature and it is one of the top priority things in our backlog. We plan to start the development in the fall, however it doesn't have any solid release date yet.

    Yes. We really need this.

Unfortunately, there are no updates with this function(

Veronika Nazarova how are you doing with the implementation of this feature?

Valentyn Zakharchuk Victor Kravchuk somehow most features we've been working on recently take months of design, development and testing. Thats why we tend not to give any solid estimates.

This one is a part of massive user management redesign feature which is in the development right now. However this specific request may be cut at any time in order release other functionality quicker. But knowing you're waiting for this permission will help it to make it to the release.

Hi, any update on the audio permission?

    Good day!

The issue of administering audio access for various system users was raised four years ago. Has the implementation of that option been approved, is this work included in the programmers’ work plan?

Time passes, but there is no answer...

    Hi all,

I'm pleased to announce that we have begun working on a separate audio permission feature. We planned to include it in the next major release following gen6, with an estimated time of arrival in Q1 2025.

I acknowledge that this has been requested for some time, and I want to assure you that it was in progress. This audio permission feature was initially part of a massive user management redesign feature which is part of gen6. However, despite our efforts, we regret to inform you that this specific request did not make it to the final release. Due to various factors, including the need to release other functionalities more quickly, it was decided to cut this feature from the release. We understand the disappointment this may cause, and we appreciate your understanding. Your feedback and patience are invaluable to us as we continue to improve our product.

    Thank you for your understanding.

It's actually sad. We are increasing the number of licenses but it has been 3 years since our first appeal and we are still waiting for next year, next year. This feature is important to our business

Dear support, is there clarity about the audio settings for users? this is a crucial point in using the system!

this should be addressed in 6.1, you should see public announcements of it soon.

    Dear Tagir!

I checked this option in beta 6.1 - in Nx user management interface there is only this option, but it does not work (on/off function is not available). Also, sound permission is not related to PTZ camera usage, other parameters of this camera or system parameters and should not be combined into one option - it is nonsense, sorry... Maybe this is how your programmers made their job easier, but it will be impractical - after all, we give or do not give sound permission to one user, and control over PTZ camera movement to another. Please, make it the way it should be, and not the way it is convenient for the programming team.

Additionally, near year or more ago, Mr. Sergey Bystrov have promised the sound permission will be accessible not only for the server but for the hive too - this improvement is logical and and justified. Have you anything about this improving?

    Thanks a lot!

    BR, V.

This is definitely a feature I would be able to sell NX Witness with

NX Witness doesn't support per-user audio permissions. Audio is controlled at two levels, neither of which is user-specific:

Camera level: Enable/disable audio globally in Camera Settings → General → "Enable Audio." This is all-or-nothing — if audio is enabled on a camera, every user who can view that camera can hear the audio. If disabled, no one can.

Client level: Each user can mute/unmute audio locally in their own NX Witness client, but that's a voluntary client-side control — not an enforced server-side restriction. Nothing stops a user from unmuting.

There's no "Audio" column in the user/group Resources permission matrix alongside View Live, View Archive, etc.

Possible workaround: Create two layouts for the same cameras — one with audio-enabled camera streams for authorised users, and a second layout using the same cameras but with audio disabled at the camera configuration level. But this is messy because disabling audio on the camera disables it for everyone, not per-layout. You'd essentially need duplicate camera entries or a proxy layer to achieve true per-user audio control, which NX Witness 6.0.6 doesn't natively support.

This might be worth raising with Network Optix as a feature request, especially given your biometric and privacy compliance requirements across the Australian and NZ sites.

Is NX Witness maybe intentionally excluding this because they want to sell more licences? Because cameras have to be added twice as a “chewing gum” workaround to allow and disallow audio per user per camera?

I can be really short about this: No.
