5th option for recording.... High res always but with increased frame rate on motion.

Probably harder to do for the system than it sounds but....
I'd like the option to record full time high res at 1 or 2 FPS, but when motion detected, increase the FPS to 10+.
Sometimes the motion does not trigger on distant objects on outdoor cameras. Rather than risk that, I typically keep all outdoor cameras at full time high res, but that gobbles up a lot of storage.
The ability to change frame rates based on motion would be a nice option I think.

Thank you for the feedback.
You can set the camera with continuous recording at the amount of fps you like (1-2 fps as mentioned).
Then you add a rule as follows:
- Event = Motion on Camera
- Action = Panic Recording
In this way, the camera switches from 1-2 fps to max. fps and max resolution.

Will panic recording record ALL cameras at max fps. Not just the one with the Motion on camera = panic recording rule.
So if I got a system with 100 cameras and this rule on 1 of them. all 100 cameras will be recorded at max fps when the rule trigger?0 -
Fredrik, yes you can set all or any cameras to panic record on motion on any camera.
This is the only reference I found in the manual, "Panic Recording switches recording settings for all cameras to maximum FPS and highest possible quality." But you can specify which cameras you want to panic, does not have to be all.
Since it changes the frame rate on the primary stream at the camera, there can be no "Pre-Event" increased frame rate and naturally there is a slight delay for the camera to switch rates. Post Event is set in the normal Motion post recording setting.
It appears this may be a good option vs Motion + Low-Res recording for many of my outdoor cameras and maybe even inside cameras. I think it better to have low frame rate Hi-Res vs high frame rate Lo-Res for situations where the motion detection does not detect motion in distant objects. I'll have to do the math to compare the storage difference between 15 FPS Motion + Low-Res vs. 2 FPS Hi with Panic and 3 second Post recording and see how much a difference there is. But one thing is for sure, the storage will be less than full time Hi at 8+ FPS which is where I have been setting outdoor cameras to. The only downside is the lack of Pre Recording, not sure if that will be a factor yet or not, probably not.

Well hell, I spoke too soon. It appears I cannot set individual cameras to panic record only themselves if motion detected, which is counter-intuitive. Now the "Panic Recording switches recording settings for all cameras to maximum FPS and highest possible quality." and Fredrik's comment makes sense. While not all cameras need to be set to panic record on motion, any camera that is, will panic record if ANY other camera that is set to panic record detects motion.
That needs to be fixed IMO. So, back to placing Panic Record as the 5th option in the camera settings page. This would allow the configuration of the individual camera and leave the Event Rules for global panic.Sorry Fredrik, when I first read your comment, for some reason I thought that it was desired to have all cameras record in panic when one had motion detected. I see now what you were getting at.

Could you (Network Optix/NX Witness) do something like recording just the I frames (or every 2nd, 3rd etc) of the hi-res stream for the "idle" recording? Would that work? You wouldn't have to change the FPS of the camera or try and decode the stream to get a picture then, just have to parse it and extract the I frames. Are you already doing this for the thumbnail creation?
We do something like the requested feature currently with our outdoor/large area Mobotix cameras (not on our slowly expanding NX Witness system), a full res frame every second or so when idle and then up to full FPS on motion/event.

There is an action called "Camera recording". Would it work for you?
The downside is since it does not have "source" param you would need to create as many rules as many cameras you have. But we'll fix it shortly.0 -
Only existing thread I can find on this topic, is this going to be a standard feature soon?? Every other system you can just select high res low frame rate then higher frame rate for motion...

As Sergey Bystrov, pointed out, you can use the Camera Recording action to fulfill this request.
In the example below, I have set the framerate to 7 FPS at quality Low (1) in the Camera Recording schedule. In the Camera Rules menu, I created an Event for Motion on Camera (2) with the Action Camera recording (3) which provides the option to increase the frame rate and quality (4).
I hope this resolves your request.
