Feedback and Advice on Design
CompletedWe have created a Proof of concept for a large client and so far everything is going well and we anticipate full approval. That said. Here is the current situation:
Main Campus
- Main Building 1 has about 96 Cameras tied to it
- Main Building 2 has about 40 Cameras Tied to it.
These 2 building are probably within a hundred feet of each other(probably less).
My thoughts were
- Run a fiber between the 2 buildings
- Put the nxWitness Server at Main Building 1(this is where our data server is)
- Put in New POE switches at each location and connect them between the 2 buildings
- Move all the cameras to the POE switches at both sides.
We want to store about 90 days worth of footage so looking at roughly around 200 TB's NAS for storage.
So 2 questions here:
1. Realistically What kind of Specs for the server CPU and Memory. Storage will be handled by a NAS
2. There will be 2 viewing stations - We will try and keep the Cameras on Screen down to 16 but possibly viewing onto a 50 inch TV- do we need a system with a dedicated graphics card or can we get away with onboard Intel HD?
Additionally we will have 9 additional sites off campus which will generally have no more than 32 Cameras at each location.
What would your recommendation be for each of these servers?
I appreciate any feedback

To answer your specific questions:
- For a system that mainly is intended for recording; the specifications in the linked article suffices.
- For a single monitor system, there is no need to use a GPU. The embedded GPU will do just fine.
If you want to discuss the system into more details, so all designed considerations are discussed, please reach out to your local Nx Reseller or our presales team through your local Nx Reseller.
