Transcoded Export (with Timestamp) Defaults to Low-Res Stream – Expected Behaviour?
CompletedHi team,
We’ve run into an issue across multiple sites and wanted to check if others have experienced the same — and whether this is expected behaviour or something that needs to be addressed.
Scenario:
- A
.novfile is downloaded from NX Witness. - The original playback in NX shows high-resolution footage throughout.
- When exporting to MP4 without transcoding (e.g., no timestamp overlay), the exported video retains the high-res quality.
- However, when exporting the exact same segment, this time with a timestamp applied (which triggers transcoding), the resulting export is in low resolution — despite the preview clearly showing high-res.
Our Questions:
- Is NX defaulting to the low-res stream when transcoding, even if the
.novfile includes high-res footage? - Is there a way to force the use of the high-res stream during transcoded exports?
- Could this be related to motion-based streaming logic — i.e., NX assumes non-motion = low-res, even when post-record high-res data is available?
We’re keen to understand if this is by design or something misconfigured on our end. Happy to provide example files if needed.

Hi Matthew Scott,
Thank you for reaching out. This doesn’t sound like the expected behavior. By default, the high-resolution stream should be used, even when transcoding is applied. Could you please confirm that you’re running the latest version (currently 6.0.5) and, if possible, test it on another Desktop Client device?
If the issue persists, we recommend contacting your local authorized Nx Reseller for further assistance.
Best regards.
