Synchronizing Video Across NX Witness Servers for Remote Locations
CompletedI’m looking for some advice on managing video storage and syncing between NX Witness servers in remote field setups. Let me explain with a couple of scenarios:
-
Traffic Monitoring Camera: A municipal traffic camera is mounted on a light pole and connected to a compact NX Witness video server, which is linked to a 5G/LTE modem. The server records video locally and can be accessed remotely. However, the LTE connection isn't always fast or stable enough to allow high-quality, real-time streaming.
-
Police Vehicle Setup: A police car is equipped with four cameras connected to a rugged NX Witness video server, also using a 5G/LTE modem. The server records the footage and can be accessed remotely for both live viewing and playback.
In both situations, and a few more I have planned, LTE struggles to deliver stable, high-quality streaming. Storing video long-term on these remote devices isn’t ideal either. I would prefer that they record video on-site in high quality, but automatically offload the footage to our central server whenever there’s sufficient network availability. For example, patrol vehicles could offload video when they return to the station and connect to Wi-Fi.
Is there a way, either through developer tools or existing features, to sync video from one NX Witness server to another? I've experimented with connecting the cameras to our main system via LTE/IPsec VPN, but the performance has been poor. I’m thinking it would be better for each remote server to retain its own video while using background processes to sync the footage back to the central server when possible.
Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Johnathan Powell,
I hope you’re doing well! I noticed that this topic hasn’t received any engagement from the community yet, and I wanted to check in with you. Is the issue you mentioned still relevant or something you’re looking to resolve?
Best regards.

Hi Johnathan Powell,
Could you please let us know where you're located? This will help us ensure that the appropriate presales team member or partner connects with you to discuss your specific scenarios and potential solutions.
Regarding your current situation, for offloading, it’s generally a good idea to sync the data (for example with a application like Syncthing) folders and reindex the data.
While resolving real-time viewing under limited bandwidth conditions might be challenging, we do have a support article with suggestions for using the software effectively in such circumstances. You can find it HERE. However, there will always be a certain minimal threshold, that is required to receive high-resolution images. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, feel free to let us know!
Best regards.
