Audio triggered recordings

We have customers with privacy reasons that want a mic in a room without any cameras. Is there any way to record audio without video in DWS alongside regular cameras in the system?
We've tried plugging mics into cameras that were mounted outside the room, but the audio shuts off without motion. Alternatively we end up recording the camera 24/7 and no way to see when the private room had audio.
