    Hi Gord V.

Thanks for your feedback, but I think this is misunderstanding.
What you mentioned on the smart events should be different level of integration which is ROI and configuration supported. The ROI/Configuration support will be available Hanwha/Vivotek and likely some other ones.

For Hikvision integration, Nx Witness now supports "Event notification", you are able to choose those events on Event-rules engine on Nx Desktop Client.  If you need such integration, you can contact your local Hikvision Sales, the Hikvision sales will relay to Hikvision HQ and they have a team working on such integrations.

    Thanks.

So I still need to setup various smart events directly on the Hikvision camera before being able to work with event notifications in the event section of the VMS? (Can't do it all through the VMS?)

    Hi Gord V.,

You can indeed add and configure cameras from any manufacturer in Nx Witness using the Desktop Client. The client offers a camera webpage relay in the Camera Settings page, and you can also use the inClient browser to access the camera web interface for configurations.

It is advisable, as a common practice, to restart the camera after configuration to ensure the settings are applied and can be retrieved by the mediaserver.

    Thank you for your understanding.

There is almost no documentation on how the Hikvision plugin works. It would be nice if there was documentation on how to get certain features working. Like in order to get hikvision cameras to show objects in Witness you have to turn on motion detection in the camera. But even once you have objects being detected, you can't make a rule based on the type of object being detected.  For example to send an email when a human is detected between certain times.

I have happily used nx witness for many years and have many cameras on the system. My initial draw to it was its intuitive interface and multi camera capabilities. Ironically I find that plugins, events, and similar features using native camera capabilities or third party stuff are not intuitive or supported well. But hey, nobody will likely redo the user experience over one customers comment. For example I don't think systems messages should be managed in the same interface as managing camera capabilities (or what they call events) without at least providing those things from within camera specific settings page (not the puny webpage tab either) and possibly with some relationship to motion detection. The core product is still very good though.
