    Hello Masashi Katsuta,

This disk space that displays how many GB (or MB, TB...) is occupied on your internal hard drives or Direct-Attached Storage (DAS) or Network-Attached Storage (NAS). It shows the occupied space by any files, not just by Nx Witness files.

    1. If you add cameras and enable recording on them, the occupied space will change depending on the size of the video files recorded on the cameras.
    2. It does not depend on the maximum size of the SSD.
    3. Different cameras have different capabilities. Depending on the quality and with what bit rate the camera records the video, the occupied space will change.

    Hi Roman,

Thank you for sharing the information.
I am Keisuke Sawada, a colleges of Masashi.

Now we need to inform it to our customer about how much disk space can be used for their recording.
Because the Nx Witness works on our edge gateway which has limited disk size (SSD from 64G).
So let me continuously confirm more details.

Q1. Our understanding is following, could you confirm it?

    • Total Size = Free Space + Occupied.
    • Occupied = Reserved (by Nx Witness) + recorded movie (.mkv, by Nx Witness) + consumed by other application.

Q2. May I know the objective of "Reserved" area? And if possible, could you give us a location of the reserved area?
To know the size of "Reserved", we have checked this article.
    https://support.networkoptix.com/hc/en-us/articles/229345767-Adjust-Reserved-Disk-Space

Q3. Is the total area of Reserved allocated on the disk right after launching media server?
    Or dynamically allocate it?

    Best Regards,
    Kei (Keisuke Sawada)

    Hello @...

    1. Total Size = Free Space + Occupied.
Free Space = Reserved + free space.
Occupied = space consumed by any files.
    2. Reserved space is the space that is reserved to ensure a correct write-ratio calculation and to improve overall system stability. There is no specific location for this space.
    3. For a more complete understanding of How does Nx Witness manage storage, please refer to THIS article.
