Disabling camera recording while home
AnsweredHi,
for privacy reasons, we would like to disable camera recording while we are at home.
I installed a network switch powered by a smart plug, which disables the internet connection of the server when our alarm system (Ajax) is turned off.
However, getting the server back online while the alarm is turned on, doesn't always work, or often with a delay.
Any thoughts on how I could make this work better?
Thanks!

Hi @...,
If I understand it correctly, you disconnect the connection between camera and server, which is an internet connection and not a local LAN connection?
What I would do is using a Generic Event to start/stop the recording. Instructions can be found HERE.
And set up a rule that when the intrusion panel is armed, it triggers the input of an I/O, either on the camera or a separate device, which enables the recording and when disarmed, the recording will be disabled.

Hi Norman,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes that's correct, I disconnect the internet connection between the camera PoE switch and server, which is an internet connection.Good idea about the generic event!
Kind regards

If you're using HomeKit & HomeBridge by any chance, I've done this exact thing. Here's how I did it: https://support.networkoptix.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/1500000637981-Howto-Disable-cameras-via-HomeKit-when-someone-is-at-the-location
