    Dear @...,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I'd be happy to help you with your query.

There are a few options you could consider, reducing the amount of data stored in your storage.

Firstly, you can adjust the retention time in the Camera Settings menu, under the Recording tab. You can alter the minimum or maximum time options to reduce the amount of data that needs to be kept.

Another option is to change the reserved space, which is explained in more detail in THIS support article. In this case, the VMS will occupy a specific amount of space, and the remaining storage will be available for other data.

Lastly, you could create a separate partition for the video data through your operating system.

That all being said, I would advise dedicating storage solely for the footage and not combining it with other operations. This is unless you are confident that the storage has sufficient capacity to manage multiple sources, each with their own load on the storage.

I hope this information is helpful to you. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

    Best regards.

    Thanks Norman

I'd already sussed out the reserved space tweak and that seems to have stopped the nagging about disk space but I hadn't yet spotted the Camera Recording adjustments. Am I right in thinking that this only affects new data collected after the adjustment so will take some time to work through the system? Unlike the Reserved Space which made an immediate impact. (Just had a peek at HDD free space via Webmin and it's now obvious that space is being cleared as I write!)

For information, my webcam recording have been restricted to their own dedicated HDD since very early on. There is a small amount of historical data on another HDD, which I assume will disappear over time, which was laid down before I worked out how to stop data being spread over all drives.

    Many thanks for your help

    Cheers.

For reasons I cannot understand, since resolving this "Reserved Space" issue, I've been getting regular notifications of "Not enough HDD/SSD speed for recording to ..." I didn't have this before and I'm not aware of any changes which could be causing this. There are a maximum of four cameras which could record.

My NX Witness server runs on Ubuntu. Thinking of ways to resolve this, is there a satisfactory way to have a modest sized SSD as the "landing disk" for bursts of NX-W recording with the data shifting to standard HDD for longer term storage? I am aware that Stablebit Drivepool can do this on Windows servers.
