NX Witness on a VM
CompletedHi,
is it possible to install the nx witness on a vm in a datacenter and to use it like a cloud based system, so that i can cameras on different locations?
And is it possible to use it as a backup server, like if the local server gets stolen, that i got a copy of it in the "cloud"?
Thanks

Dear Rene,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the deployment of our software. It is possible to deploy our software in a virtual machine (VM), and the location of the VM is not relevant as long as there is a stable internet connection. This could a limitation when using a datacenter. For ordinary applications, some delays aren't an issue, but for streaming video, this could be a pain.
However, we would like to offer some suggestions to ensure the safety of your data. Based on our experience, relying solely on a cloud server may not always provide a fast and stable connection. Therefore, we recommend running a local mediaserver as the primary storage location to ensure that no data is lost.
For additional data backup, we suggest setting up a cloud SMB server. Please make sure that the file system is either Ext4 or ZFS, which you can add to the Nx Witness VMS as backup storage, and the datacenter uses block storage, instead of object storage. Also, you could run the mediaserver application in a remote location and assign the storage as backup storage. To ensure seamless communication between the two mediaservers, we recommend setting up a proper VPN connection.
By using a VPN, you can enable failover and continue to use the system, even if the primary server is compromised.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Best regards,
