NX server usage of bandwith
AnsweredI have a customer with NX server with about 50 cameras running. The cameras are in 6 different locations and sending streams to the server. 4 of the locations are primary school/kindergarden and are set to NOT record between 0700-1700. All cameras have pre and post recording of 5 sec. Between 0700-1700 a lot of employees use the network between central site (where server is) and the schools/kindergarden. The line is maxed out if I enable recording on the cameras, most likely due to pre recording. Is there a way to stop feed on the cameras outside recording scheldue? So that I still can have pre recording set for scheldue when they are to record motion and objects. I know this can be done in other vms systems, but cant find anything on NX witness

Hi Liv Pettersen,
If pre-recording and post-recording is used, or motion in general, the server stores data in its RAM, thus also uses bandwidth, the equal amount as it would when it would record continuously.
What would reduce the bandwidth is when using in-camera motion, or better, in-camera analytics. This way, only listening packets are sent from and to the VMS, which are much smaller than video data.

Hi
Should i then disable motion in nx and set a rule in the camera and enable motion via analytic in the camera?

Hi Liv Pettersen,
That would be the thing I would do.
Please do not forget to set the time schedule for the rule as well.

Thank you
As long as its outside the time schedule no analytic will be sent to the camera, is this correct? Seeing as this is schools and kindergarten there will be a lot of activity during the hours outside det schedule

Hi Liv Pettersen,
That is correct. Please note, that there will always be communication between server(s) and camera(s) for status checks, etc. and this will be quite frequent as well, but packet size is smaller, nevertheless it still adds up, but if should considerably less than streaming video data.

Hi
Thank you for the answers. To set this up how should the time schedule on camera settings on recording be? Same as the rule on analytic event? Now recording is disabled duo to bandwith, but i need to test. Just set recording active with object and make the time the same as the rule?
