Bringing OpenVINO up to date.
AnsweredThe OpenVINO plugin seems to be from 2020 and lists 6th to 10th gen Intel processors. What would it take to bring it up to date with the OpenVINO API 2.0 and possibly make better use of the Deep Learning technology in the 11th, 12th, and 13th gen processors?

Hi Jeff Jones,
I'll make a request for our developer, but not sure if and when it will be updated.
JIRA-VMS-36531

We were thinking of testing it to use object detection for cars and people to trigger recordings in areas with heavy environmental "noise" such as bugs, rain, leaves, shadows from trees.
this plugin was meant to be an example integration.
Is it too buggy to be included as an official feature at some point in the future?

I realise the original intent was for the plugin to be an example of what is possible to integrate with Nx but there is massive value that can be added for this application, particularly with version 5's object search functionality.
It allows for Nx to make ordinary cameras capable of a lot more than just video recording which can be a major selling point - while a lot of new cameras are coming with these features, most older cameras don't have them so being able to add value here is a massive advantage for SIs.
Even if it was only updated to add vehicle detection and support the latest API with the same overall rules, it would cover most use cases. I think customers would generally be prepared to pay for this kind of functionality as long as it was priced reasonably. Completely understand there's a lot of other things on the roadmap already though.

I’ll put it in the backlog and we’ll see what we can do.
while I understand that it might be frustrating that we don’t work on improving the OpenVino plugin, I may assure you that we’re working on plenty of other amazing things, including production-ready analytics, that we plan to release next year.

Sounds great Tagir Gadelshin
No frustration here... completely understand the fun of trying to balance all of requests and roadmap forward.
Thanks,

Hi,
I was about to start a new post on this topic however found this which summarises our thoughts.
The OpenVINO libraries and subsequent NX integration is something which we think should be pursued further. The value it brings to the NX Witness platform is excellent from an Open Source perspective, particularly for user who from a cost/benefit perspective can't justify the expenditure into some of the licences integrations.
We would love to see a new wrapped example of OpenVINO Analytics Plugin tailored for NX5.0 and expanded where possible for not only for the Intel range processors but AMD and Windows Emulation on M1/M2 Mac Processors also.
Having seen this Integration's capabilities in the past I think it's an avenue worth continuing.
Cheers,
James

Hi James Russell,
OpenVino most likely will never work on AMD or ARM, since it is an Intel application. See also their requirements for the application HERE.
Although most likely development efforts for the Open Vino plugin will be kept to bare minimum, as my colleague Tagir Gadelshin, mentioned, we are working on our own production-ready analytics, but they aren't finished yet. These will be much more reliable and versatile.
-
Was there any progress on the new production-ready analytics?
Cheers,
Max
