How to create an NX Witness Server + Cliënt on 2 Raspberry's Pi's 5 with Raspberry Pi OS Trixie Debian Linux 2026: (Version 1)
Dear Community,
I written a how to script to create a server + cliënt on two Raspberry pi 5 (8GB) for the users who want it. :) (middle difficult) Why on Raspberry Pi 5? Less power usage for 24/7 on :D
Version: 1
Steps Server:
1: Install on a sd card (i used a 64gb a2 card) with Raspberry pi Imager Raspberry Pi OS 64bit (Debian Linux Trixie Lite) (put on the ssh function, so you can connect to it via other pc)
2: For updating the Raspberry Pi software type:sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo reboot now
3: after reboot login again on server and type:
wget https://updates.networkoptix.com/default/43301/arm/nxwitness-server-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb && sudo dpkg -i ./nxwitness-server-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb
4: after download the server package and installing it, install missing packages. type:
sudo apt install -f -y
5: Remove downloaded .deb file for save space: i type it twice so you get error by purpose so you know it's gone.
sudo rm nxwitness-server-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb && sudo rm nxwitness-server-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb
6: update and reboot again for sure:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo apt autoremove -y && sudo reboot now
7: server is installed now and debian is fully updated.
8: connect via a pc to the server: server ip is as example 192.168.2.100:7001
(find your ip to type): hostname -I
setup new server.
Server name example: Raspberry Pi 5 Server NX
username: admin
password example: yourpassword
9: connect with nxcloud. Make account (if you don't have)
For simple use: use admin and same password as above. activate account via email.
10. if you are connected to nxcloud, go to camers's and give camera's same username and password for simplyfity. (for home use) restart camera and server!
go to “servers” and click restart server button. (repeat at every camera)
10a: if this is your first time, you need to activate some camera's. And login on the camara's to set them up ( i come back later, if the post is done and got more time)
11. if everything is okay you see on your dashboard: 192.168.2.100:7001 (use your own ip) at camera's, you got image and they are running.
12: fill in your licenses if you have, somewhere on the dashboard.

Steps Cliënt: (Other Raspberrry Pi 5 8gb) connected to a screen
1: Install on a sd card (i used a 64gb a2 card) with Raspberry pi Imager Raspberry Pi OS 64bit (Debian Linux Trixie Desktop version 64bit. (put on the ssh function, so you can connect to it via other pc)
2: For updating the Raspberry Pi software type:sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo reboot now
3: after reboot login again on server and type:wget https://updates.networkoptix.com/default/43301/arm/nxwitness-client-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb && sudo dpkg -i ./nxwitness-client-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb
4: after download the cliënt package and installing it, install missing packages. type:sudo apt install -f -y
5: Remove downloaded .deb file for saving space: i typed it twice so you get error by purpose so you know it's gone. type:sudo rm nxwitness-client-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb && sudo rm nxwitness-client-6.1.3.43301-linux_arm64.deb
6: update and reboot again for sure: type:sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo apt autoremove -y && sudo reboot now
7: because you use desktop version know, you can open nxwitness via desktop icon or menu.
click on connect to server. I thougt that doesn't work, then click button next to it. Fill in server ip and username and password.
8: Is everthing is allright you can see know your camera's. you need to make yourself the wall. swipe camera's to it.
9: also on the nxwitness desktop app you can add your licenses. and set the quality etc...
This is version 1 from me created from out of my head. So the steps won't be axactly right maby, but middle users know what they need to do.
Hopefully you have something like this needed to create a Server and Client on 2 raspberry's pi 5 8gb.
(Sorry for if my English is not so good as yours.)
Goodday,
Daniël
