Reuse the current fullscreen window when navigating via Hotspots
Feature Request: Reuse the current fullscreen window when navigating via Hotspots
Background
We use Hotspots extensively to follow people or vehicles across large camera systems.
Currently, when navigating using Hotspots, Nx Witness keeps opening additional camera cells inside the underlying Layout. While this is useful in some situations, it becomes inefficient during investigations involving many cameras.
Suggested improvement
When a camera is opened in Full Screen, navigating to another camera via a Hotspot should optionally replace the currently displayed camera, instead of opening another camera in the background Layout.
In other words:
- Double-click a Hotspot to open the destination camera in Full Screen.
- Continue navigating through additional Hotspots.
- Instead of creating more hidden Layout cells, simply replace the current Full Screen camera with the selected destination camera.
Benefits
This would:
- Reduce CPU usage.
- Reduce GPU usage.
- Reduce network bandwidth.
- Prevent dozens (or even hundreds) of hidden camera streams from remaining open in the background.
- Make long investigations much smoother.
For large installations, investigators often move through many cameras in succession. At the moment, every visited camera remains opened in the underlying Layout, consuming unnecessary resources.
Related request
This suggestion is closely related to another feature request regarding limiting the number of opened Layout cells:
Both requests aim to improve performance during investigations involving large camera systems and extensive Hotspot navigation.
I believe adding an optional setting such as "Replace current fullscreen camera when navigating via Hotspots" would provide the best of both worlds while remaining fully backward compatible.
