Playback access limitation by time or bookmark
(Please click on that up arrow if you agree with this feature request)
NxWitness applications in big installations require that a user can be limited on what footage he can actually access, for privacy and security reasons.
These limitations could be defined by:
- Time interval, for example:
- Only recordings from the last 5 hours
- Only recordings from the last 3 days
- Only recordings from interval between: 5 and 2 days ago (more complex but more flexible)
- Authorized bookmarks
- User does not have access to any recordings, except bookmarks that have been “shared” to him
- Each bookmark could have a setting of “limited access”
- By default this option could be “everyone”
- You can change this to a user or a group, just like you can do with other settings like “soft trigger”
- Alternatively, could be limited to a specific bookmark tag
With the bookmark options, the bookmarks created by rules could be setup to automatically assign itself to the correct user or user group, which would in effect enable to limit users' access only to specific events' footage based on the bookmarks.
Other VMS solutions, at similar level as NxWitness, already have this function, at least the “time interval” limitation.
Since NxWitness lacks this kind of functionality, it has come up in multiple discussions as a a problem or an actuall roadblock when comparing with the solutions from the competition.
Doing a search I see this feature has been requested many times in the forum, with some early eafer promises, but more recently have not yielded any follow up.
