Clarification on Failover Recording Behavior in Nx Witness
Hello Network Optix Team,
I would like to clarify the recording behavior during a failover scenario in Nx Witness.
When a primary server goes offline and cameras are reassigned to a failover server:
- Are new recordings stored exclusively on the failover server?
- Do existing recordings remain on the original server without being transferred?
Additionally, I would like to confirm:
- Does Nx Witness provide any built-in mechanism for transferring or synchronizing recorded archives between servers after failover?
- If the primary server comes back online, is there any process to merge or consolidate recordings from both servers?
We are currently designing a system where recording continuity and data integrity are critical, so understanding this behavior is very important.
Thank you for your clarification.
Best regards,
-
Hi,
Although I am not part of the Network Optix Team, let me try to clarify based on my understanding and experience.
- Are new recordings stored exclusively on the failover server?
- Do existing recordings remain on the original server without being transferred?
Any recordings done while the primary server goes offline will be stored exclusively on the failover server.
These will never be transferred to the primary server.Any client playing back the recordings does not know where the recordings are stored.
The recordings will be deleted after 30 days or when the storage is full and needs to use the space for newer recordings, as usual.- Does Nx Witness provide any built-in mechanism for transferring or synchronizing recorded archives between servers after failover?
- If the primary server comes back online, is there any process to merge or consolidate recordings from both servers?
As of now, there is no system to synchronize recordings between servers, I don't know if this is a feature planned for some future release.
We are currently designing a system where recording continuity and data integrity are critical, so understanding this behavior is very important.
When a Server fails and there is a Failover Server there will be two gaps in the recordings:
1) When the primary server fails: About 30~60 seconds
2) When the primary server returns: Less than 10 secondsThe bigger gap in case 1) is that the System is making sure that the primary server is really offline and that it's not just some lost packets.
Hope this helps
