New Feature idea: Capture Drivers License shown to Axis A8105-E or 2N intercom camera
AnsweredWhen our visitors enter our school buildings into the security vestibule area where we have either an Axis A8105-E or 2N Intercom we have a voice prompt that asks them to hold their driver's licence or ID up to the camera. In most cases, they are not steady in holding up their ID or they show it and move it away too soon and we then ask them through the SIP call or though the audio to hold up their ID again. We use this to verify who the person is before allowing them to enter and especially now during the COVID pandemic, we can verify if the student they are at the school to pick up is the rightful parent allowed to pick up the child based on their ID and keeping socially distant and protecting our school staff from having to be face to face.
The new feature request would be the ability to quickly capture and display a cropped image of their ID in a new window. Currently, we are using the screenshot button which is slow to open a "Save Screenshot As File box and then have to hit Save and then wait for it to populate the Local Files menu in DW and then double click on it to then open. However, if you are on a "Locked" layout, this is not possible as the layout is locked for an understandable reason but perhaps this could create a bookmark and display as a thumbnail of just the ID under Bookmarks or have the ability to open as a Split-screen layout as the thumbnail wouldn't be big enough. Hope this is making sense.
Next level coolness would be an integration with 3rd party software like Raptor that rather than having the visitor enter the reception area and have to hang their ID to be scanned, the intercom camera would have already captured the image and opened it up directly in Raptor where it checks the ID against a criminal or sex offender database.

Hello Scott,
It's not a usual request, but I do understand your problem =)
Capturing an ID on the photo, showing a notification with the ID preview, saving screenshot, adding this screenshot to a layout – it all can be done with a special video analytics plugin. We usually don't develop plugins, but you can do it yourself, or ask third party developers to do it. See the https://support.networkoptix.com/hc/en-us/categories/360000737654-Develop-with-Nx-Meta section for more details.
As a simple and temporary solution, which won't require any development, you can set the video on pause when a person is showing you an ID so that you'd have enough time to read and verify it.
If you don't want to loose context, you can add another copy of the camera to layout and disable "SYNC" button on the timeline, so that you'd be able to have both paused and live video at the same time.
If the ID itself is small, you also can create a zoom window for that camera, which would show an enlarged area with the ID, so that you won't need to zoom the camera in or send it fullscreen.

Hi Aleksandr,
Thank you so much and appreciate the quick reply. I like your suggestion to disable the sync button on the timeline and be able to pause one view, zoom in if needed and still have a live view. Works great if they have "View Archive" permission but if unchecked this is not possible. When hitting the space bar does pause the video, it pauses both. The user role is for Live view only as we don't want them looking back through archived video. I also realized without the "View Archive" they also would not have the ability to "View Bookmarks" so the camera rule I created to create bookmark won't work as they wouldn't be able to see it. For now, will give the user the view archive permission, and perhaps in a future release more granular permission will be added.
