[Nx Witness Mobile] Managed Application Configuration via MDM
Summary
Introduction of AppConfig strings for MDM on iOS/Android.
Description
Declaration of supported configuration keys for the mobile application so that the managing organization can push key-value pairs to the application on managed devices.
Requested examples:
- IP/Hostname
- Service Port
- Session expiration time
- Restriction against or disabling automatic saving of login credentials by default.
Business impact of the limitation or the missing feature
Absence of this feature impacts the efficiency of deployments and granularity of control in large, mostly enterprise, environments where mobile devices make up a significant amount of active clients.
Until this feature becomes available, configuration of the mobile client relies on manual input from an end user, or individual configuration by technical staff. This also goes beyond the initial configuration, as any changes needed afterwards also have to be rolled out manually each time under the current circumstances.
Miscellaneous
The introduction of this feature would benefit consistency and efficiency in environments with a large (mobile) user base, as well as promote adoption by organizations that consider this functionality a hard requirement. To me, this seems like a logical next step, especially considering the recent introduction of Gen 6 Enterprise.
