Soft trigger record

Hi Team 

My client needs a more flexible soft trigger record at the user level. They are recording various sessions of different lengths. Can we create a  click on click off record soft button? So far Ive only been able to set a time length to stop recording (behind the scenes so to speak). Also it could be nice if the red record icon ot the top left corner came up recording in this scenario.
