MQTT
CompletedHi There,
Is it possible to get a MQTT or HTTP snapshot sent to nx witness server from third party camera through API's for review.
We currently have this type of trail camera and would like to review snapshots through nx witness and be alerted when trigger has activated.
Thank you

Hello Daniel,
Could you please provide more details on your objective? What is the expected final result?
Could you please describe in detail the data flow you expect to have: who is sending data to whom?
Could you please provide as well the following info: VMS version, camera model?

I think the object is to be integrate more simply with other systems using a standard and widely used protocol like MQTT. If we could involve NxWitness as an MQTT Client that would empower us with the ability to tie literally anything into events and triggers with the rules in the system. NxWitness would need to be able to publish and subscribe to MQTT topics.
I'm wishing I could get a soft trigger toggle (two states with two actions where is updates the icon depending on the state its in) Then have actions for each state instead of one trick pony buttons doubled up for each desired state. For example if someone pressed soft trigger toggle state to acknowledge/silence an onsite alarm system. The soft trigger would send/publish the command to mqtt broker (simple text string sent to an IP) to disarm the alarm while the issue is addressed (but still occurring as a camera event). This disarm trigger would stop sirens, flashing lights, and maybe unlock a door as part of a separate alarm/site automation system managing such things. Likewise if NxWitness is subscribed to such topics, it could update the true status of the alarm system disabled state for the soft trigger toggle if say a physical disable alarm button was pressed by staff onsite. -
I have Hanwha cameras and Axis sirens that I've configured as MQTT clients and using events with currently because nxwitness VMS can't do it natively as an aggregator to accomplish this within its rule system (while including input with third party button/automations).
I don't want to sound rude but its really sad when basic hardware firmware capabilities are outpacing their core user interface software. However, sadly not every camera firmware includes MQTT support so its hit or miss as to how and when I can implement it depending on model and firmware version. Would be fantastic to decouple the hardware dependent support and tie it directly to the VMS user interface and rules system.
